2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Unveiling

Earlier this week, the United States Mint unveiled the designs for this year's America the Beautiful Quarters. A special event was held in Washington, DC with attendees including the Director of the US Mint, the Secretary of the Interior, the United States Treasurer, and more.

Despite the build up to the event, for which collectors have been waiting nearly three months, the unveiling seemed a little bit anticlimactic. The candidate designs for the quarters have been circulating for about six months. I think the final selections for at least three of the quarters were pretty widely expected. The two less certain selections were for Hot Springs National Park- I expected the single image of the fountain to be used, and for Yosemite National Park- both the Half Dome and El Capitan seemed to be close contenders.

Below are image of the final selections. For the most part, these are the same line art representations that were revealed many months ago. The only difference I can spot is the removal of some illegible writing above the NPS seal on the Hot Springs Quarter.

The first quarter will be released on April 19, 2009. The exact release dates for the other four issues are still unknown.

2010 Presidential Dollars

The Presidential Dollar series will enter its fourth year in 2010. The year will also include one of the most well known Presidents, hopefully giving the series a boost.

The US Mint recently released the line art images for the 2010 Presidential Dollars honoring Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, and Abraham Lincoln. These images will be used for the obverse of each coin and the reverse will continue to feature the Statue of Liberty as designed by Don Everhart.

The Presidential Dollars will be struck for circulation at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. The dollar coins will co-circulate with the Native American Dollar series. Proof versions of each dollar coin will also be produced for inclusion in a variety of US Mint products offered to collectors.

Images for each of next year's Presidential Dollars appear below.

D.C. & U.S. Territories Quarters

State QuartersDid you know that next year the US Mint will issue six quarters honoring the District of Columbia and the five United States territories?

It's true! For 2009 the following will all be honored on their very own quarter:

These coins will follow the completion of the very popular 50 State Quarters program.

The same image used on the 50 State Quarter program will be used for the obverse of the coins. The reverse of the coins will feature images emblematic of the places represented. The design process has already begun in the various locations. The Secretary of the Treasury will select the final designs.

Coins will be issued in equal sequential internals throughout the year.
