2009 Silver Proof Set

On July 17, 2009, the United States Mint released the 2009 Silver Proof Set. An annual proof set containing 90% silver coins has been produced since 1992. Back then the set had only five coins, but this year’s set contains a whopping 18 coins. The sets are priced at $52.95 each.

The sets have expanded due to the larger number of quarters issued for 2009, as well as the four different designs issued for the 2009 Lincoln Cent. This is the largest sized proof set issued by the US Mint since the era of modern proof coinage began.

Each set contains four 2009-S Proof Lincoln Cents. These coins bear four different reverse designs representing Lincoln’s birth and childhood, formative years, professional life and presidency. The sets contain one each of the 2009-S Proof Jefferson Nickel, 2009-S Silver Proof Roosevelt Dime, 2009-S Silver Proof Kennedy Half Dollar, and 2009-S Proof Native American Dollar.

Rounding out the set are also the six different 2009 Quarters issued featuring the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands.

Completing he set are the four different Presidential Dollars issued for 2009. The dollar coins honor William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk, and Zachary Taylor.
